I am legit happy Mako found Korra

vindictev:

mrspettyferr:

Now, I don’t ship couples for the sake of how I feel about one. Like, just because Korra liked Mako—and I like Korra—doesn’t mean I’d ship Makorra. I don’t ship because I feel sorry for characters either. Like, shipping Borra because I pitied Bolin. No. I don’t ship that way.

So what I mean by being happy for Mako finding Korra is this guy right here:

Goes from that—all serious, no smiles, stressed out, worrier, kind of cold guy to this:

He’s just so happy now that it makes ME happy. It’s always kind of sad to me when I see characters/people who are just unhappy. I felt the same way about Zuko, seeing him so angry and unhappy made me sad. Even with Bolin and Asami not working out with Mako and Korra, they’re still happy people. I feel like Mako hasn’t really…had a lot of happiness in his life. At least not for a very long time.

I mean he’s taken care of Bolin since he was 8 years old. He’s the reason Bolin is able to be so happy. Mako makes sure bills are paid, they have food, a place to stay, etc. He works so Bolin doesn’t have to. So Bolin can live as happily as possible. When they win a round in episode 2, Bolin celebrates while Mako can’t even crack a smile because he’s already worried about the next match. Not a day goes by when Mako can afford not to worry. He’s likely never even had a relationship before Asami, too busy or focused on taking care of both Bolin and himself.

He’s always been the protector and caretaker. And he’s done this all alone, with some help from Toza. Korra proves to him in episode 3 that he doesn’t have to do things alone. Slowly, she works her way into his life, and he starts to build a relationship with her. First as a teammate, then a friend, and then more.

I just find it very satisfying that not only does Korra shoulder some of his weight—like he does for her, too—but she makes him smile and soften. The ice and walls he’s had to build around himself are able to melt when he’s around her.

I know how they got together wasn’t perfect and I don’t think Mako deserves Korra because of his past. She’s not a prize to be won. But it does make me happy to see him—and her, really—so happy, especially when we could see how serious and unhappy he was before. It’s nice that they have eachother.

*cries manly tears*

I just want Mako to be happy, okay?

…and nooowwwwwwwww I can crawl back into my Makorra pity cave, thank you very much.
